Dorrity - There are two alleged meanings for the name both of which comes from Ireland as does the name. The first is that it means 'destructive' and was earned in battle, The second is that it means 'People of the Oaks'. This second meaning has more credence in that the name does appear to come from around the Cork area of Kerry hence it is more regionalised than would be expected for one derived of a battle honour. This particular spelling of the name is indicitive of it being corrupted as people moved from Ireland.
